My name is Jet Broersen and I was born and raised in the Netherlands. I’m Dutch, which you probably already noticed while reading my name. When I have to describe myself, I would say that I’m a curious, ambitious young woman who still needs to learn a lot in life. I’m eighteen years old and an up-and-coming model. Besides standing in front of the camera, I like to write as well.
When I was 12 years old, the sister of a friend told me that I should start modeling. I laughed really hard when she told me. Of course, I was a little flattered as well, but I was really short, and I still wore braces. Every time someone asked me something or told me something I wasn’t prepared for, my cheeks turned the brightest red possible. Me? Modeling? No way.
I think that my love for fashion started in my last year of high school. I took extra art classes and fashion and photography suddenly started to catch my eye. By the time I was allowed to make my own dress in art class, my design was already ready. I loved the idea of designing and making my own clothes. I started using special paint on simple white shirts to make them more my own. I bought special paper which you could use to iron designs on shirts. Before I knew it, my love for fashion grew and grew, and photography caught my attention, too.
After that first comment, modeling never crossed my mind until a good family friend mentioned it again. Two years older than me, she and her friend kept saying I should try it, which of course, made my cheeks very red once again. But it did make me think of modeling. I was taller by then and my braces where finally gone. I spoke about this with my dad, and we started searching for photographers just for fun. My birthday came closer and a photoshoot proved a great gift.
Suddenly, after this photoshoot, I loved being in front of the camera. The photos I saw in Vogue and Elle inspired me, and I hunted for pretty clothes that I could wear during the shoots. I told my cousin and she knew a girl who knew a photographer (networking is the key!), and before I knew it my next photo shoot was planned. This photographer had contacts with great model management agencies and a few months later I was signed.
I’m doing photo shoots and going to castings all the time now. I hope to go abroad in 2 months! I have finally been published and I really want to grow as a model. But I’m not just busy with modeling, I’m also a student. As you can see, I love creative writing. Now I’m writing for Modelboard and I’m going to keep you updated on my journey into the wonderful world of modeling!
