The first time walking for the Fashion Week in your own city, that’s the best feeling for an upcoming model. Sunday the 25th of January my time finally came, my 20 seconds of fame on the catwalk of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam. That’s at least what I thought that week. I didn’t know that I would get a surprising call the 23rd.
How people in fashion sometimes seem like superheroes (all well prepared, look like they don’t need to sleep or eat), they’re also just ordinary people, and sometimes they’re sick. So what if the models you booked are becoming sick in the morning? Then you try your best to find another model. And that’s where I came in. That morning when I was still asleep I got a call from my agency. If I wanted to walk that day for the show of Said Mahrouf. Don’t ask me twice, I said yes without even being awake fully.
And that’s where I came in.
I rushed out of bed, showered and grabbed some food. Half an hour later (thank god you aren’t allowed to come with makeup on to those shows, saves some time!), I was on my way to Amsterdam.
When I walked to the desk at the backstage entrance and told them I would walk for Said Mahrouf that day, they handed me the famous lanyard with the backstage pass for models. After this I was sent to the designer and the dressers to see which clothes I would wear during the show.
After trying on some different outfits, they finally choose for a marine blue trousers with the same blue and white gilet. I was going to walk the show on silver with white sandaled heels.
After this fitting they took care of my make-up. A big black eyeliner line above and below my eye was the eyecatcher of the look. But not only black, also a seagreen liner above the black line graced my eye. My brows where made lighter with foundation and my lips got a nude look with a pink finish.

My hair was the bigger work. Combed straight to the back, but how do you keep the hair there? Yes, with tons of hair gel. Between every layer of hair a brush with hair gel painted my hair.
There wasn’t a lot of time to relax after the make-up and hair makeover. We had to go to the walking rehearsal. We got a small catwalk training on how they wanted you to walk. After practising the walk a few times, we practised the final, and then it was already time to get dressed.
The exiting moment was getting closer and the audience took their seat in the hall. The final touch up with make-up was getting done and in the meantime we saw that the lights in the hall were dimmed slowly. The music started and it was time to walk. After all the designs where shown and we walked the final show, the audience burst into applause.

Looking at the big smile the designer gave us, I could tell that every one of the team did a great job.
