Zazai Design debut collection entitled ‘culture clash’ is inspired by designer Nawed Elias Afgan roots. These pieces are an homage to traditional dress, offset with typical pieces associated with western dress, this collection is certainly an eclectic mix of the east meets west.
The colour palette is in an array of Jewelled tones that are contrasted with more muted tones of browns, beige and greys, inspired by the versatile scenery of the mountains, deserts and green forests that make up the Afghan landscape that are home to the Pashtun tribes.
Afghanistan, a country rich in textiles lets Elias incorporates an array of materials from silks and cotton to traditional woven pieces that are a celebration of the rich Afghan culture that forms the foundation of the designers original style.
Gender identity through the bridal style dress
Within this collection, Nawed Elias challenges social conventions raising questions of Gender identity through the bridal style dress and stilettos that are normally associated with western marriage. This collection is a salute to Afgan culture, from its traditional dress and textiles to its beautiful landscape, from a country torn by conflicts these pieces look beyond that shining light on the cultural tradition and geographical beauty of Afganistan. This collection marries the two worlds together in harmony.
